Talk of the Turnstile – June 28th

Welcome to the third special Samba edition Talk of the Turnstile, bringing a weekly round up of all things World Cup and SoccerStarz!

Into the second round we go, and plenty of knockout games to “sink your teeth” into.

The second round match ups are as followed (all times are in GMT+1)

Saturday 28th June – Brazil vs Chile 5pm followed by Colombia v Uruguay 9pm

Sunday 29th June – Netherlands vs Mexico 5pm followed by Costa Rica vs Greece 9pm

Monday 30th June – France vs Nigeria 5pm followed by Germany vs Algeria 9pm

Tuesday 1st July – Argentina vs Switzerland 5pm followed by Belgium vs USA 9pm

I’ll be airing my predictions on our Facebook page over the coming days so make sure you tune into that to see what teams I think will progress to the next round. One thing’s for certain we won’t have to watch England in a dreaded penalty shoot-out.

Obviously the big news is the ban handed out to Luis Suarez following his decision to bite Giorgio Chiellini. He has been handed a 9 game international ban and a ban from all football activities for 4 months. It’s the biggest World Cup ban ever. It will be very interesting to see what happens next.

Moving away from the World Cup as we can’t wholly ignore the club game

Some brief headlines

  • Seamus Coleman has signed a new 5 year deal at Everton
  • Real Madrid and Barcelona reportedly still interested in Suarez despite the ban
  • David Moyes is negotiating with Galatasaray about becoming the new head coach

With the close season now upon us, the transfer mill has gone into overdrive. So over the coming months we will try to keep you as updated as possible on the majority of transfers as and when they happen.

Transfer news

  • Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw sign for Manchester United for £28million and £30million respectively
  • Benfica’s Ezequiel Garay signs for Zenit
  • Fernando joins, from Porto, Manchester City
  • Jake Livermore signs for Hull on a permanent basis
