Talk of the Turnstile – Issue 17

Welcome to Talk of the Turnstile, issue 17.

Wilshere to miss three months, Keane leaves Villa and English clubs make the next stage in European competition.

Following on from the Arsenal, Manchester United game last weekend, Jack Wilshere needed surgery on ankle ligament damaged he suffered in a challenge with youngster Paddy McNair. It comes at a disappointing time for Wilshere as he had just started to hit something of a purple patch of form. Arsenal fans will also be disappointed as Arteta succumbed to injury in their very next match.

Roy Keane has decided to end his time with Aston Villa after just four months with the club. The reasoning behind his departure is to spend more time focussed on his job with the Republic of Ireland. Keane commented via Sky Sports News, “It isn’t fair to either Villa or Ireland, so I’ve made this decision. I’d like to thank Paul for giving me a great opportunity to come to a brilliant football club”.

English sides, Chelsea, Arsenal, Everton and Tottenham made it to the knockout stage of their respective European tournaments, the Champions League and Europa League. Chelsea are assured of finishing top of their group whilst Arsenal must win and Dortmund lose to top theirs. In the Europa League, Everton will finish top of their group with one game remaining, and Spurs need to avoid defeat to do the same. Both Liverpool and Manchester City need a win to finish second in their Champions League Group.
