Talk of the Turnstile – 11th April

Welcome to another edition of Talk of the Turnstile, bringing a weekly round up of all things football and SoccerStarz!

This week we saw the quarter final second legs of the UEFA Champions League.

We will start with the Tuesday night games that saw the eliminations of both PSG and last season’s finalist Borussia Dortmund. PSG will be extremely disappointed following their 2-0 defeat to Chelsea. After being 3-1 up in the first leg, many expected PSG to hold on and qualify, but a resilient Chelsea were not to be denied, as goals from substitutes Andre Schurrle and Demba Ba provided Chelsea with the goals they need to progress to the semi-finals.

With Dortmund chasing a 3-0 defieict, Carlo Ancelotti saw fit to rest Cristiano Ronaldo, mainly due to a slight injury that will also now keep him out of the Copa Del Rey final against Barcelona. BVB were very close to taking the game to extra time, but failed to score the third goal that they really needed.

A stunning strike by Patrice Evra was not enough for Manchester United as they succumbed to defeat against the current European Champions Bayern Munich. They held the league for just 22 seconds, as Bayern fought back through Mario Mandzukic, Thomas Muller and Arjen Robben.

A 1-0 win was all that was needed at the Vicente Calderon to take Atletico Madrid through to the semi-finals, at the expense of Barcelona. Impressive for an Atleti side that are currently top of La Liga, Diego Simeone has really worked his magic.

Here is the semi final draw

Real Madrid vs Bayern

Atletico vs Chelsea

This Sunday represents quite possibly the Premier League decider as Manchester City travel to Liverpool. City are in a situation where a win will bring them within one point of the Reds. It is set up to be a great game.

Some brief headlines
