#LCQ Archive Players #2 – Gonzalo Higuain

Born in France, plays for Argentina, our second in our list of archive players is Gonzalo Higuain.

Currently at Napoli, Higuain’s career began at River Plate, where he made his debut in 2004. Whilst he didn’t score any goals in his first season (he only played four league games) he did manage a total of 5 goals in 12 games in his second season. His third and final season with the club was his best. He scored 10 in 17 games including a brace in the Super Clasico against Boca Juniors. Plenty of clubs in Europe were then interested in signing the young Argentine, but it was heavyweights Real Madrid, who won the battle, to welcome him to the Santiago Bernabeu, at around €12 million.

It wasn’t until his third season when Higuain really hit his stride, scoring 22 League goals in 34 games. He had come of age, and the following season was to get even better, when he scored 27 league goals in just 32 games. His follwoing season was beset by injuries, however managing a respectable 10 goals in 17 outings. He spent another two seasons with Madrid before finally moving on to Napoli in the summer of 2013. In total he scored 122 goals in 264 appearances for Real Madrid.

Signed as the replacement for the out-going Edinson Cavani. His start to life in Naples has been relatively good, scoring 5 in his first nine Serie A games. He has also scored one in two in the Champions League.

To date he can boast winners medals to three La Liga titles, a Copa del Rey and two Supercopa de Espana.

Whilst he can’t say he has won anything at International level, his personal record speaks for itself. He has bagged 21 goals in 34 appearances and should be fully expectant to be travelling with his side to neighbours Brazil for the 2014 World Cup. Higuain
