SoccerStarz Team World Cup Predictions

With just one day until the World Cup finally kicks off, the SoccerStarz Feature Editor Dominic Hanley (@Dominiho7) has gone round the office asking the SoccerStarz team for their World Cup predictions

Who will win the World Cup

Who will win the Golden Boot

Where will England finish in the tournament

Three relatively easy questions that have caused plenty of debate;

Make sure you leave your predictions in the comments at the bottom of this page for your chance to win an International Team Pack!!!

So let’s start with Justin, our UK and Export Senior Sales Executive

Justin believes that Belgium will be victorious in this summer’s tournament. He said that he feels even though they haven’t had much experience they have a very strong squad with quality in all positions. Neymar will prove to be top scorer in his home country and England will make it out of their group but will then fall at the first knockout stage.

Winners – Belgium

Golden Boot Winner  – Neymar Jr

England – Last 16

Next up is our Key Account Manager, for the UK & Overseas, Lee

Lee believes Brazil will be Champions on home soil and will erase the horrible memories of the 1950 World Cup, the last time Brazil hosted the tournament. Four time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi will finally make his mark at a World Cup and will return home with the golden boot and much like Justin, Lee feels England won’t get past the last 16.

Winners – Brazil

Golden Boot Winner – Lionel Messi

England – Last 16

Hugh, General Manager (Toy Division)

Hugh feels that Brazil will gain their sixth World Crown and that Neymar’s goals will inspire them to victory. He hasn’t much hope for the Three Lions though as he predicts that they will go out in the group stage. Where’s all the optimism lads?

Winners – Brazil

Golden Boot Winner  – Neymar Jr

England – Group Stage

Adam, Head of Marketing

Like Hugh and Lee, Adam has chosen Brazil as the team he thinks will be winners this summer whilst backing Argentinian Sergio Aguero to win the golden boot award. Finally we have someone that is optimistic about England’s chances as he feels England can make the semi finals, Adam said “why turn up to a tournament if you don’t think you’re going to do well?”

Winner – Brazil

Golden Boot Winner  – Sergio Aguero

England – Semi Finals

Colin, General Manager (Creative)

Colin believes that Spain will win their fourth major International trophy in a row and the first to retain the World Cup since Brazil in 1962. He thinks that this could be a great tournament for Daniel Sturridge as Colin believes he will be the first Englishman since Gary Lineker to take home the golden boot. As for England a run to the quarters is the best Col believes it will get for Hodgson’s men.

Winner – Spain

Golden Boot Winner  – Daniel Sturridge

England – Quarter Finals

Glenn, SoccerStarz Trading Director

Glenn is another that feels Brazil will be unstoppable this summer and that they will win yet another World Title, but thinks that the topscorer will come from neighbours Argentina and a certain Mr Messi. It’s interesting to see nobody mention Cristiano Ronaldo’s name for topscorer yet. As for England, Glenn believes they will make the last 16.

Winner – Brazil

Golden Boot Winner  – Lionel Messi

England – Last 16

Conor, SoccerStarz Development Co-ordinator

Conor has plumped for dark horses Colombia to win the trophy this summer. Even without Falcao he believes that they have an adequate replacement in Jackson Martinez and feels James Rodriguez is ready to impress.  Not content on choosing one Golden Boot Winner  Conor went with two and chose Neymar and Higuain. His hopes for England are less than optimistic and feels the group stage will be their undoing.

Winners – Colombia

Golden Boot Winner  – Neymar Jr/Gonzalo Higuain

England – Group Stage

Sam, Sales and Purchasing Director

Sam believes that Argentina will be able to win their third World Cup and their first since 1986, which leads Sam to think that Messi will finish as the Golden Boot Winner of the tournament. He expects England to make the quarter finals but isn’t hopeful of too much else from the Three Lions.

Winner – Argentina

Golden Boot Winner  – Lionel Messi

England – Quarter Finals

Mark, Head of Toy Division

Mark is another that believes Argentina are the ones to beat this summer. With a strong attacking force nobody will be able stop Messi and Co from running riot. Like Sam, Mark feels Messi will be the top marksman, whilst England will fall at the group stage.

Winners – Argentina

Golden Boot Winner  – Messi

England – Group Stage

Gareth, Managing Director

Gareth is a firm believer that Germany will win their first World Cup in over 20 years this summer. With some very talented individuals and a strong team unit, they will be very tough to break down. With Muller playing in the “false 9” role, Gareth is predicting that he will be the Golden Boot Winner come the end of the tournament. A last 16 place beckons for England but Gareth expects that to be the furthest they can achieve.

Winner – Germany

Golden Boot Winner  – Thomas Muller

England – Last 16

And finally

Dominic, Marketing Executive and Feature Editor

Dom believes this is the most open World Cup he can remember and has really struggled to pick who he thinks will win it. He believes Belgium are a team to be reckoned with and that Brazil have the advantage on home soil, but feels Germany have the strongest of the squads and even without Marco Reus they still have the strength in depth to be winners. As for the Golden Boot Winner he’s put a bet on Rickie Lambert, but in all realness thinks Cristiano Ronaldo has as good a chance as any, whilst he strongly fancies Higuain to bang plenty in. How about England? Quarter Finals is 100% reachable for England, but feels that they will come unstuck there….. probably on penalties.

Winner – Germany

Golden Boot Winner  – Cristiano Ronaldo or Gonzalo Higuain (purely because of the strength of their group)

England – Quarter Finals
