Talk of the Turnstile – Issue 9

Welcome to issue 9 of Talk of the Turnstile

An absolute corker of a Super Sunday last weekend as we saw goals galore, upsets and a Frank Lampard goal that could help shape the title race for Chelsea…….

As far as Super Sunday’s go, last weekend was a great one for the neutrals. Cruising at 3-1, you can be forgiven for thinking that Manchester United would see out the game against Leicester City. Don’t take anything for granted in football, however. Questionable refereeing decisions coupled with lacklustre defending by United cost them the three points.

Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not taking anything away from Leicester but the officials failure to spot that the ball have left the pitch for the first goal and then Clattenburg’s decision not to award a foul from Vardy on Rafael, which resulted in a penalty the opposite way, changed the momentum in Leicester’s favour and from then on they didn’t look back. Cambiasso bossed the midfield for Leicester, which supports my theory he would have been useful at United and makes me wonder why no other club came in for him.

You just knew didn’t you? Fate has a habit of throwing something like this up especially in football. 1-0 up, 5 minutes to go and with City down to ten-men, Chelsea are in the ascendancy as they attempt to see out a match that would send them 5 points clear at the top. Enter Frank Lampard, the man who scored 211 goals for the blues in 648 appearances, scores the equalising goal that could be decisive in the title race. Now you may say “but it’s only September” and by saying that you’d be right, but it has given City hope and keeps Chelsea well within reach.

Arsenal and Everton both failed to qualify for the fourth round of the Capital One Cup, as Liverpool and Boro set record for amount of penalties in a shoot out.

14-13 was the final score for the penalty shoot-out between Liverpool and Middlesborough. Meaning Liverpool went in to the next round.

Here is the draw for the fourth round of the Capital One Cup.

Tottenham v Brighton

Stoke v Southampton

Bournemouth v West Brom

Shrewsbury v Chelsea

Liverpool v Swansea

MK Dons v Sheff Utd

Man City v Newcastle

Talk of the Turnstile – Issue 6 – Special edition Transfer deadline day

Welcome to a special edition of Talk of the Turnstile on this transfer deadline day.

We will start with the stunning news that Manchester United are about to sign Falcao on loan from Monaco. Daley Blind has also passed his medical and will be unveiled as a MUFC player today. That’s why everyone loves this day so much, anything is possible!!

So as promised we said we would reveal some exciting news today…. well we can start with the below

We have an England NEW PLAYER ALERT! Here is Jordan Henderson, Rickie Lambert and Luke Shaw.

England - Lambert, Shaw, Henderson

You didn’t think we would announce all our “exciting news” at once did you? Keep an eye on our social profiles in the next two days for plenty more.

You may have also noticed that we have being using a lot of yellow in our pictures… well we will be announcing why that is over the coming weeks also.

Transfer deadline day so far

  • Falcao will join Manchester United on loan before signing a permanent deal
  • Javier Hernandez has joined Real Madrid on loan
  • Abel Hernandez has signed for Hull City
  • Jermain Defoe has been linked with a move back to England. Arsenal and QPR are the touted clubs
  • Loic Remy is now a Chelsea player, though we knew that on the 31st August.
  • Will Negredo move to Valencia?
  • Tom Cleverley’s future still in the air, as is teammate Danny Welbeck’s.

We keep a close eye on all the transfer dealings in the window as one transfer can mean a complete change to a SoccerStarz figure. We will be watching right up until 11pm tonight and beyond to see who, if any, of the players SoccerStarz have in their catalogue move on to another club.

A long afternoon and night ahead one suspects and that’s why we love deadline day.

As always keep an eye on our Facebook and Twitter for any announcement on new players.

Thanks again for reading.

Talk of the Turnstile 2014/15 – Issue 5

Welcome to Talk of the Turnstile, season 2014/15, Issue 5

Who’d have thought it? After a near perfect pre-season, Manchester United were supposed to beat Swansea City… weren’t they? It would seem Ki and Sigurdsson had other ideas. A 2-1 victory was their first ever win at Old Trafford in league football. It was a shock to the system for United and Louis Van Gaal said that “their confidence had been shattered”.

So how did United respond? They signed someone of course. In comes Marcos Rojo from Sporting Lisbon and out went Nani as he returned to his former club on a year’s long loan deal.

But the most talked about deal and perhaps one that surprises most is that Liverpool have managed to buy Super Mario and I’m not talking about the plumber. Mario Balotelli has agreed to sign for the Reds in what could be a major boost to their title charge.

You may have seen the current standings for the SoccerStarz Premiership on our Facebook page earlier this week. Well, if you missed them here they are.

Seven German players have come down with flu the day before the France game, Joachim Low believes that they will be okay for the game and didn’t make it known what players were ill.

Talk of the Turnstile – June 6th

Welcome to another edition of Talk of the Turnstile, bringing a weekly round up of all things football and SoccerStarz!

What do these men Falcao, Walcott, Benteke, Strootman and now Ribery, have in common? Well; they will all be absent from the World Cup through injury. Ribery was the latest to be struck by the injury curse and will have to support France from the sidelines. The Portuguese FA has also confirmed that Cristiano Ronaldo is struggling with tendonitis and this could end his hopes of playing in the World Cup.

World Cup is only 5 days away!!!!

With just 5 days left to go til the start of the WC, excitement is really starting to take hold of each country as they begin the journey to glory. As you will have seen, SoccerStarz have posted numerous articles in the build up to the tournament where @Dominiho7 (follow him on Twitter by clicking HERE) has been running the rule on who he thinks can win the tournament and who to watch out for. Keep an eye over the coming week as we will continue to post so great World Cup content.

Some brief headlines (rather Southampton dominated at the moment)

  • Rickie Lambert scored for England as they drew 2-2 with Ecuador in a friendly. It has been a good week for Rickie as he secured his move to his boyhood Liverpool on Monday
  • It is increasingly likely that Cesc Fabregas will be playing in the blue of Chelsea next season as they are very close to agreeing a deal with Barcelona
  • One deal that is done however is Diego Costa’s move to the Blues as he passed a medical earlier this week.

With the close season now upon us, the transfer mill has gone into overdrive. So over the coming months we will try to keep you as updated as possible on the majority of transfers as and when they happen.

  • Rickie Lambert signs for Liverpool
  • Phillipe Senderos signs for Aston Villa

Talk of the Turnstile – May 30th

Welcome to another edition of Talk of the Turnstile, bringing a weekly round up of all things football and SoccerStarz!

Oh so close, literally seconds remaining and we would be saying that Atletico are European Champions, alas we are not. A Sergio Ramos header in the 93rd minute crushed Atleti hearts and gave Real all the momentum that they needed. A further three goals in extra time including a goal from Gareth Bale gave Real Madrid the trophy with the big ears and La Decima (their 10th European Cup).

World Cup warm up matches are currently on going with England due to play Peru at Wembley. We’ll discuss the fall out next week as this Talk of the Turnstile goes to press before the match kicks off!

Luis Suarez could be absent from facing England and the World Cup entirely after having minor surgery on his knee. Will that have an affect on Uruguay qualifying? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

SoccerStarz were delighted to announce the release of the PSG Champions Pack. You can view this pack by clicking here

World Cup is only 11 days away!!!!

  • Mauricio Pochettino is the new man in charge of Tottenham Hotspur,
  • Samuel Eto’o has apparently said he would like to join Arsenal

With the close season now upon us, the transfer mill has gone into overdrive. So over the coming months we will try to keep you as updated as possible on the majority of transfers as and when they happen.

  • Jordi Gomes has left Wigan to join Sunderland
  • Sunderland also signed Billy Jones from WBA
  • Stoke signed Phil Bardsley
