Welcome to another edition of Talk of the Turnstile, bringing a weekly round up of all things football and SoccerStarz!
This week we saw Liverpool take a vital step towards their first ever Premier League crown, as they beat Manchester City 3-2 at Anfield.
Man City then failed to win at home against Sunderland, further enhancing Liverpool’s chase for the title. City will have to hope for a Chelsea victory at Anfield to even think about winning the league title at this rate, and even then they must hope Chelsea drop points elsewhere.
Chelsea kept up the pace, just two points behind, as they narrowly beat Swansea 1-0.
Hull City has made it to their first ever FA Cup Final after winning 5-3 in a thrilling encounter with Sheffield United. With crowd in stunning form, both teams put in performances to remember as each fought for the right to face Arsenal.
Talking of Arsenal, in what was at times a slow, unassuming match, they managed to triumph, with the help of penalties over FA Cup holders Wigan. It was very cruel on Wigan who had taken the lead thanks to a coolly dispatched penalty by Jordi Gomes. Per Mertesacker had given away the foul, but quickly went from zero to hero as he scored the goal that made the game level at 1-1. Following on from a pretty uneventful extra time, the dreaded penalty shoot-out ensued, and thanks, to saves from Lukasz Fabianski, Arsenal will be the team in the FA Cup Final.
Real Madrid are the new Copa Del Rey Champions, beating rivals Barcelona in the final El Clasico of the season. The Ronaldo-less Real, had their other superstar to call on, as Gareth Bale scored the goal that proved to be the winner. Bale treated his Instagram followers to the following image.
